The Dimensions of Well-Being refer to the multifaceted aspects of well-being that are emphasized by the University of North Georgia (UNG) as part of their commitment to student health and wellness. These dimensions include:
PHYSICAL – Physical well-being is practicing self-care for the needs of your body. This includes physical activity, balanced nutrition, getting adequate sleep, and avoiding harmful behaviors.
MENTAL – Mental Health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Having good mental health is being aware of everyday feelings and emotions and learning to cope with the challenges life brings.
SOCIAL – Social well-being is developing a sense of belonging through meaningful connections and building positive relationships with others to feel connected as part of a greater community.
INTELLECTUAL – Intellectual well-being is having a curiosity and strong desire to learn throughout your lifetime.
SPIRITUAL – Spiritual well-being is the development of a mind-body connection to foster personal growth and help you remain resilient and better prepared to face life’s challenges. It is a personal journey to find peace and balance in your life that connects with your values and beliefs.
ENVIRONMENTAL – Environmental well-being involves living in harmony with the physical and social environments that surround you. Your environment and the way you interact with it can have a huge impact on your overall health. You should understand the world around you, how you live in harmony with it and the impact your actions have.
CAREER - Career well-being is the ability to achieve balance between work and leisure time in a manner that provides personal satisfaction that aligns with your values, goals, and lifestyle.
FINANCIAL - Financial well-being is learning how to successfully manage financial expenses. Money plays a critical role in our overall well-being and being able to manage it will positively impact your health, your academic/work performance and your future.
In our Campus Nature Photography Contest, we’re not just celebrating beautiful pictures—we’re also embracing how photography can positively impact your well-being across various dimensions. As you venture out to capture the beauty of nature, take a moment to reflect on how the process impacts your well-being.
