Sinfonietta Concert
April 18, 2024 – 7:30PM Gloria Shott Performance Hall, Dahlonega Campus
The UNG string orchestra, Sinfonietta, will give its final concert of the year on Thursday, April 18 at 7:30 pm in Shott Auditorium. The concert will be a celebration of the orchestra’s many graduating seniors. They will perform a wide range of selections representing different eras and styles. The centerpiece of the concert will be J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, a virtuosic piece composed in the early 18th century for nine solo string players. Sinfonietta will also play “Deep Sea,” a piece composed by double bass major Zane Cook as part of his senior project. “Deep Sea” was inspired by a piece of art that will be displayed during the performance. The other selections will include Béla Bartók’s “Evening in the Village” (chosen by cellist Rebekah Huneke), Jay Ungar’s “Ashokan Farewell,” and a medley of traditional tunes featured in the movie Titanic, “An Irish Party in Third Class” (both chosen by violinist Cooper Rock). The concert will close with a medley of themes from classic Westerns, “Blazing Bows of the West!” (chosen by cellist Zoe Kinzie). The concert is free and open to the public.
